History of Dip Coating
The earliest recorded dip coated process was candle making. ![]() Dip coating became an important industry when the demand for natural rubber outpaced the supply. PVC was developed in the 1910's as a replacement. It was discovered that with the addition of chemicals (plastizers) to keep if flexible, it could be cured with heat and retain the flexibility. The material demands of the two world wars made dip coating and dip molding a premier industry. We use dip coated/molded products everyday. From the plier handle with the soft grip to the CV joint boots in our cars, dip coating/molding is there. The number one product made by dip molding today is condom manufacturing.
