Get a Grip With Plastic-Coated Hand Tools

Whether you're working in poor weather, difficult conditions, or just don't want to drop your tools as easily, plastic-coated tool handles can be a lifesaver — literally! Coating handles with cost-effective plastisol can make it easier, more comfortable, and safer to grab and hold on to all kinds of hand tools under nearly any conditions.

Hand Tool Coatings

Adding a protective, helpful plastic coating to hand tool handles is one of the most popular ways the dip coating process is used. Typically, a tank of plastisol (polyvinyl chloride (PVC) combined with plasticizers to add stretchiness and flexibility) is heated to form a liquid. Preheated tool handles are then dipped into the plastisol where the temperature of the tool mainly determines how thick a coating is applied. Coated parts are then heat cured to set the plastisol.

Benefits of Plastic-Coated Hand Tools

While plastisol handle coatings can't do the work for you, it would be hard to overstate how helpful this simple, inexpensive coating can be. Some benefits of a plastisol handle coating include:

  • Softer, Better Grip — Plastisol's naturally rubbery feel makes it easier to hold on to handles in wet or slippery conditions, limits strain and absorbs vibration, reducing hand fatigue.
  • Protection — From insulating against electrical current, resisting moisture and most chemicals, and performing well in temperature extremes to limiting damage from impacts and abrasions, plastisol coated handles can be safer for you and your tools.
  • Customization — Plastisol can be formulated in nearly any color, so it's easy to color code different sizes or types of tools. Additives can expand plastisol's versatility, offering even more protection, such as enhanced UV resistance, antimicrobials, and fire retardancy.
  • Durable — Long-lasting and highly resistant to damage and wear, plastisol coatings are there to help you and your tools for the long run.
