What Is Electrostatic Spraying?

Electrostatic spraying is a powder coating method that involves the use of a spray gun to apply the coating on a workpiece surface. An electrical charge is created on the powder particles, which makes it cling on the surface. The method is a fundamental concept of the Coulomb's law whereby the electrical forces (opposite charges) of the two materials is what creates the magnetic like attraction.

Why Does It Work So Well?

Electrostatic spraying is efficient because the static electric charge created minimizes spray waste. This is because the magnetic like atomic attraction between the powder particles and the surface ensures that the spray produced clings to the surface of the workpiece, therefore, reducing paint waste. The coating adds protection hence preventing corrosion. It can be used for a variety of materials like polyester, nylon, epoxy, polyethylene, Halar, Polyolefin and Hybrids.

What Benefits Does It Provide?

The following are the benefits of the electrostatic spraying method:
  • It is a cost-effective method because over spray is reduced.
  • Due to its high transfer efficiency, it is environmentally friendly, i.e. because over spray is minimized.
  • The finished product is of good quality because the paint is evenly distributed.
  • It is an effective method because all kinds of surfaces can be evenly painted.
