Dip and Spray Powder Coating for the Military Industry

Dip and Spray Powder Coating for the Military Industry

Dip and spray powder coatings for military use must meet stringent requirements for environmental tolerances and durability. These coatings not only add to the functionality and longevity of military parts and products, they offer increased safety, resistance to heat, chemicals, corrosion, and other dangers.

What Are Dip and Spray Powder Coatings?

Both dip and spray coatings are protective, functional layers added to parts by immersion or spraying. Dip coating involves partially or fully immersing a part into a tank of liquid or powder coating material. Spray powder coating performs the same task using a spray gun to add an electrostatic charge to the powder so that it's attracted to the part being coated. Heat is applied to the parts before or after the coating process to enhance bonding and durability, depending on the selected coating technique.

Common Coating Materials

While we offer a wide variety of coating options, the most common materials used for military purposes include:

Plastisol

An excellent insulator and noise reducer, plastisol adds a smooth, grippable surface in a range of thicknesses. It can be applied with a variety of techniques and can have a gloss, matte, or slightly textured surface, adding to its flexibility. It's commonly used to coat handles, wiring, shock absorbers, and vehicle and plane parts.

Vinyl

Cost-effective and versatile, vinyl powder coatings are highly chemical, corrosion, impact, and abrasion resistant. Vinyl coatings are frequently used for SCUBA gear and rope coatings.

Nylon

Also known as polyamide, nylon powder coatings offer superior UV, corrosion, impact and abrasion resistance. Nylon coatings are exceptionally durable and create little friction, making them excellent choices for military applications.
