The Amazing Versatility of Halar Coating

One of the most durable and smooth plastic surfaces available, Halar coatings can be found everywhere from industrial and mining applications to electrical wire coating and hazardous material transport.

What Is Halar?

Related to the more familiar Teflon, Halar is a brand name for the fluoropolymer ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE). Halar coatings are crystal clear, extremely strong, and weldable. Halar is extremely tolerant of many hazards, including lasting performance in temperatures ranging from –105F to +300F, pH values from 1 to 14, and both UVA and UVB light. Halar coatings easily withstand fire and electrical current, and can dramatically reduce friction.

Some of the Many Applications for Halar Coatings

Halar can be applied through traditional coating methods, as well as innovations that allow coatings on some plastics and newer techniques providing waterborne coatings. It can commonly be found in industries where its extreme smoothness, purity, and fine performance in a wide variety of environments make it suitable for critical applications including:

Pipe and Tank Lining

Halar's ability to offer durable protection in extreme conditions make it an excellent choice to coat numerous types of vessels and pipes.

  • Acid manufacturing and storage
  • Duct, pipe, and tubing coating for liquid and wastewater handling
  • Bromine, chlorine, fluorine, halogen, and related chemical processing
  • Hazardous material transport, including Class 8 corrosives

Electrical Coatings

High electrical resistance, purity, and superior protective qualities make it a match for electrical uses.

  • Fire-resistant electrical cable and wire coatings
  • Semiconductor and precision electronics manufacturing

Industrial Uses

All of Halar's many qualities come into play across the many industrial applications where it finds a home.

  • Mining applications
  • High-purity environments
  • Equipment, including applications which require minimal friction

Pharmaceutical and Medical Uses

Halar's purity and durability make it a great match for the special requirements of pharmaceutical and medical applications, including coatings for:

  • Speculums, tweezers, and other tools
  • Sterilization equipment
