What Are the Different Types of Powder Coatings?

Powder coatings are thin films applied on surfaces to provide protection from corrosion by chemicals, abrasion, and wear and tear. They are an excellent surface finish option for various industries.

Types of powder coatings include:

Polyester Powder Coatings:
They are the most commonly used as they offer a variety of choices in terms of color, gloss, and special effects and give great value for money. They also provide high resistance to chemicals and impact but are best suited for interior surfaces because they wear down quickly when exposed to elements of weather. However, super durable polyester is an upgrade of polyester, which makes it more durable and can be used for outdoor finishes.

Epoxy Powder Coatings:
They are easy to use, best suited for indoor applications, and are very durable. They have a hardness quality that makes them offer the best protection from corrosion.

Hybrid Powder Coatings:
Epoxies and polyesters can be combined to form hybrids. They offer great value for money and provide more durability and resistance to corrosion. Their ratio mixture determines which of the two features they will enhance. The coating increases the cosmetic appeal and functionality of the surfaces and is common in indoor finishes like furniture and stoves.

Which Ones Are Most Commonly Used?

Polyester and Epoxies are the most widely used powder coatings. TGIC (TriGlycidyl Isocyanurate) and non TGIC are the most commonly used polyesters. Due to their different properties, they are suited for different uses be it indoor or outdoor applications.
