Custom Colors: No Problem for Plastisol

Plastisol is well known for being one of the most versatile and cost-effective materials available for plastic coating purposes. One of the most appealing and helpful ways it can meet an exhaustive range of applications is that it can be tinted to match any desired color. This allows it to be used in situations where color coding, specific aesthetic considerations, or other customer requirements must be met.

What Is Plastisol?

Plastisol is a vinyl-based polymer (usually polyvinyl chloride, PVC) material that is melted and blended with plasticizing substances which give it a characteristic elastic, rubbery feel. While melted, it makes an excellent, durable coating which can be applied with multiple techniques, most commonly dip or spray coating. It is a thermoset plastic, meaning it does not re-melt when exposed to heat after curing and fusing to the substrate. Plastisol can be applied in coats of varying thicknesses. It is widely resistant to numerous chemicals and other materials and easily withstands impacts, abrasion, and other hazards. Additives can improve its UV tolerance and other characteristics such as antibacterial or antimicrobial properties.

Stock & Custom Colors for Plastisol

Unlike most other dip and spray coating plastics, plastisol is particularly well suited to being colored or tinted. Commonly available stock colors typically include black, white, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Custom colors, however, can span the entire spectrum, and can even be precisely tinted with Pantone color matching for very accurate results. In addition to the full range of opaque stock and custom colors available, plastisol can also incorporate special visual effects, including:

  • Transparent and clear
  • Glow-in-the-dark
  • Fluorescent
  • Translucent
  • Glitter
