How Plastic Coatings Make PPE Safer

Improved Durability

Plastic coatings can protect more vulnerable materials underneath them, helping them perform better over a longer time. Coatings such as vinyl and epoxy are commonly used to coat such PPE as:

Enhanced Resistance

Fabric and leather gloves are frequently worn for their comfort and protection in many work environments, but neither material is particularly good at protecting wearers from moisture, oils, and many chemicals. Abrasion and Edge Protection

PPE can take a beating while it does its job, so plastic coatings that protect against the wear and injury caused by abrasions can be especially useful. Coatings such as polyester and vinyl can be flexible while offering superior protection and a good grip, even when wet or oily.

Safer Insulation

Protection from extreme temperatures and electrical currents are critical features required of much PPE. Plastisol is a particularly effective coating for electrical work, commonly used for coatings in high-voltage environments.
