Plastic Coating High-Voltage & Certified Electrical Tools

Plastic Coating High-Voltage & Certified Electrical Tools

High-voltage and specialized electrical tools and parts require the best insulation possible. Our high dielectric coatings protect electrical parts, service, workers, and the community, meeting or exceeding industry standards, including flame retardancy (UL-94 HB through V1) and ESD (Static Dissipative) standards.

Why Use High Dielectric Coatings

Naturally, the main purpose of a dielectric coating is to provide electrical insulation. In many cases, dielectric coatings offer additional advantages:

  • Moisture resistance
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Chemical resistance
  • UV resistance

Types of High Dielectric Coatings

Several plastic materials are suitable for coating high-voltage parts, and coating can be achieved as very thick films or thick powder coatings by either electrostatic spray or fluidized bed.

  • Plastisol - Plastisol is an excellent insulator for high-voltage needs and allows a thicker coating useful for bus bars and related parts.
  • Vinyl - Cost-effective, corrosion, chemical, and abrasion resistant, with good dielectric strength, vinyl coatings such as Duravin can provide excellent results.
  • Nylon - With extreme abrasion and corrosion resistance, many nylon (polyamide) coatings also provide excellent dielectric strength.
  • Epoxy - Epoxy powder coatings are particularly effective, durable coatings for high-voltage use, and also provide excellent chemical and corrosion resistance.
  • Fluorinated Polymers - Fluorinated polymers such as Halar are coatings which are both chemical resistant and suitable for high-voltage use.

Items Requiring High Dielectric Coatings

Tools utilized in high-voltage environments and many of the parts installed there are candidates for high dielectric coatings. These include:

  • High voltage tools such as crimpers, cable cutters, and pliers
  • Power distribution connectors
  • Bus bars for high voltage bus ducting
  • Bus bar boots
  • Underground tap connectors
  • Grounding bushings
  • Electrical switches, motors, and relays
